What Is SoftPolish?

SoftPolish is a quality assurance tool that helps software developers ship clean and consistent applications. SoftPolish checks elements of the user interface that are contained in resources and reports potential problems to a scrolling log. It also performs hundreds of tests that are not visible to the user but may cause incompatibility with Macintosh System Software.

This demo illustrates the SoftPolish user interface, including many options for scanning and cleaning files, folders, or disks. The sample file may be opened and viewed, however most other functions are disabled. The sample log file was generated by scanning BadApp, an application that illustrates some of the more common interface errors.

The first line identifies the resource item in question; the second shows the text of the item, if any exists; and the third explains what SoftPolish thinks is wrong with the item and presents a possible solution.

Product Distribution Format

SoftPolish 1.2 is delivered on CD-ROM, with online documentation. The user
manual is supplied in Adobe Acrobat Reader format (in US Letter only).


*Online distribution*:  Please note that SoftPolish is not currently
available via any on-line distribution systems. This is due to resource
constraints resulting from network capacity limitations and the distribution
package size, as well as the restriction of current technology as related to
transaction verification.  As network capacity expands and suitable product
delivery mechanisms become available, we will take advantage of these to
extend our means of delivering products and simplify the ordering process.

Ordering and Payment Information

        Please indicate the number and type(s) of product being ordered.

    * Payment Method:
        Payment in the appropriate amount must be made via check, bank
        draft, or money order, or via credit card. We regret that we cannot
        accept wire transfers or other payment methods from non-U.S. banks.
        Please also note that we cannot ship or process COD orders; your
        order must be accompanied by prepayment, or a valid purchase order
        (see below for further details).

        Checks, drafts, and money orders must be drawn on a U.S. bank,
        and be made out in U.S. dollars, payable to "Bare Bones
        Software, Inc.".

Demo Version Availability

A demo version of SoftPolish 1.2 is available on the Internet for anonymous
FTP from ftp.barebones.com, in /pub/demos; the demo can also be found on any
of the Info-Mac mirrors in the /info-mac/dev area. The SoftPolish demo
